e[GROW] Lane

Year 3 - Final Year Project

Taiping, Perak is nestled at the foothhills of Bintang Highlands about 70km north of Ipoh, 90km south of Penang as a frontier town built on tin mining fortunes, which rapidly rose to become the capital of Perak during mid-19th century. The proposal explores on different methods in understanding the condition of work and inhabitants of Taiping which eventually opens new opportunities within Tapining itself. The contrast between these two area set tones for distinct strategic intervention in a range of scales. Therefore, e[Grow] Lane is a concept to liven up a 'Sleepy Town' through commitment of the community. Cultivating edible plants is an essential part of the strategy, and the key components are Community, Cooperation, and Countryside. It brings the lives of eceryday citizens into focus to visualize a robust and sustainable urban neighborhood for the future of Taiping. It applied elements of urban development on a physical and mental level - People 'dig' their crops, they car about it, they want it to grow. They cultivate this in their mindset and their activities gives a new focus. focus.
