Project 02 : Illusion by Light Idea Board

Based on the previous model, I intend to create a structural filter lighting where the lighting fixture will twirl around the column like a parasitic plant crawling up a tree. The lighting focuses at the centre of the fixture where the structure meet, metaphorically, creating a parasitic structure reaching for the light.

To achieve this project, the arrangement of light structure that twirls around the column - compressing and expanding - forms a protective armature to a layer of clear acrylic encasing another timber structure. This however, cast dramatic shadows. The use of balsa wood for the structure lighting creates visible lines of shadows, as for the acrylic, it plays a role as an illusion element as this layer camouflages the timber structure from within. In addition, when lights are off, the only layer visible is the exterior, when it lights up, all layers are visible.
